Charles Palumbo and the Waikiki Historic Trail

Information about Hawaii architect Charles Palumbo and his contributions to the Waikiki Historic Trail.

Architect Charles Palumbo designed the surfboard-shaped markers on the trail and after George Kanahele died he volunteered to manage the Waikiki Historic Trail project. He persuaded government entities, hotels, and private estates to fund markers for their properties, he managed the installation of the surfboard markers, and he even worked with las Erickson to personally lay down the foundation of each marker on the trail. Palumbo worked closely with the City and County of Honolulu and the Waikiki Improvement Association on the Waikiki Historic Trail project.
