About Alan WongAlan Wong was Born in Tokyo and he moved to Hawaii when he was very young with his Japanese mother and his half-Hawaiian and half-Chinese father. He attended Kapiolani Community College and he worked at several restaurants in Hawaii and Japan. Alan Wong opened the Canoe House in the late 1980s He opened his flagship "Alan Wong's" restaurant in Honolulu in 1995, and one year later he was awarded the James Beard award for "Best Chef: Pacific" Three years later he opened The casual dining "Pineapple Room" above the Macy's Department Store at the Ala Moana Center. He opened the fusion-cuisine "Amasia" in Grand Wailea Resort in 2012. Alan Wong cooked for President Obama at the annual White House Congressional picnic in 2009 and Alan Wong's Restaurant was designated one of Gourmet’s "Best Fifty Restaurants" in 2001.
