Allerton Estate Garden
Information about the Allerton Estate tropical botanical garden
on the island of Kauai in Hawaii.
This tropical botanica garden on a former estate near Poipu Beach is known in Hawaiian as "Lawai Kai" and it is located on Papalina Road in Kalaheo. These gardens are also part of the U.S. National Tropical Garden program. In the Fall of 2008, ForbesTraveler.com released its lists of the "World’s Most Beautiful Gardens", which includes Allerton Garden on the island of Kauai. Banana plants, tree ferns, a rain forest, bamboo grove, tropical fruit trees, and a flower garden encompass the tropical essence. There are also pools, waterfalls, fountains and statues to give off the Hawaiian presence, with a European twist. For more information, visit ForbesTraveler.com. All visitors begin their tour by taking a 15 minute tram ride from the Kauai Southshore Visitors Center. Only guided tours are available, they last about 2.5 hours, and they cost $40 for adults and $20 for children (children must be age 10 or older to visit the garden). The tour is a combination of driving and walking and the walking portion is a one mile walk at an easy pace. Note that these details can change at any time. The Beach at Allerton Gardens
