Hawaiian Islands by Region

Information about the islands of Hawaii organized by region. Includes islands on the southeast end end of Hawaiian Archipelago, island on the northwest end of the archipeliago, and scattered isolated islands.

Southeast Hawaiian Islands
The largest and most populated of the Hawaiian Islands are located in the southeast section of the archipelago. Those islands include the populated islands of Hawaii, Kauai, Lanai, Maui, Molokai, Niihau, and Oahu.\ Also includes the unpopulated islands of Kahoolawe, Lehua, and Molokini. Some sources say the islet of Some sources also consider the islet of Kaula to be one of the Northwest Hawaiian Islands.

Northwest Hawaiian Islands
The islands, atolls, and islets ins the northwest section of the Hawaiian Island archipelago are remote and unpopulated. They are in a protected area and are mostly not accessible by the general popuilation. Those islands incude French Frigate Shoals, the Gardner Pinnacles, Johnston, Kure, Laysan, Lisianski, Maro Reef, the Midway Atoll, Necker Island, and Nihoa Island. Some sources also consider the islet of Kaula to be one of the Northwest Hawaiian Islands.

Southwest Islands
Includes Baker Island, Howland Island, Jarvis Island, the Johnston Atoll, Kingman Reef, the Palmyra Atoll, and Wake island.

Scattered Isolated Islands
Includes the Johnston Atoll and the Wake Atoll (also known as Wake Island.

U.S. Minor Outlying Islands
Includes the Midway Atoll in the Northwest Hawaiian Islands, Wake Island and Johnston Atoll in the Scattered Isolated Islands, Howland island in the- Northern Phoenix Islands, Jarvis Island in the Central Line Islands, Kingman Reef and Palmyra Atolo in the Northern Line Islands, Bajo Neuvo Bank, Navassa island, and Serranilla Bank in the Caribbean Sea
