Books About Father Damien
A collection of books about Father Damien de Veuster,
born Jozef de Veuster, who was born in 1840 in the village
Tremelo in the Flanders region of Belgium.
Father Damien is most well-known for his ministry at the
secluded Hanson's Disease (aka Leprosy) colony at Kalaupapa
on the island of Molokai. He served at Kalaupapa from 1873 until
he died of the disease in 1889. Father Damien will be
canonized in Rome on October 11, 2009, an action that will
complete the process of making him a Catholic saint.
