Donn Beach (born Ernest Raymond Beaumont Gantt), founder of Don the Beachcomber Restaurants, says he invented the Mai Tai at one of his California restaurants in 1933. Victor Bergeron, founder of Trader Vic's restaurants says he invented the drink in 1944. The recipe on this page is one of the Don the Beachcomber Mai Tai recipes, and it is made with grapefruit juice, lime juice, two kinds of rum, orange liqueur, Falernum Syrup, and bitters. Ingredients
- 2 ounces of water
InstructionsShake all ingredients together with ice and strain into a tall highball glass filled with crushed ice. Garnish with fresh fruit and serve with straw. Resources
