Chinese New Year on Oahu
Information about Chinese New Year events, activities, and
celebrations on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. Includes a
Narcissus Festival procession through Chinatown, a two-day
Chinatown open house, a parade through the center of Chinatown,
and a festival with food booths, craft booths, and
live entertainment.
Hawaii Narcissus Festival
(February 16, 2007)
The 58th annual Narcissus Festival will take place
in Honolulu's Chinatown on Friday, February 16, 2007
from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. The Narcissus Queen, her court,
and lion dancers will walk in a procession through Chinatown,
visiting local shop owners, who will light firecrackers
and offer good luck money envelopes to the lions.
The procession will end at a Chinatown Cultural Plaza festival
with food booths, craft booths, and live entertainment.
2007 Chinese New Year Parade
(February 17, 2007)
The 2007 Honolulu "Night in Chinatown" festival and
Chinese New Year Parade will take
place in Honolulu's Chinatown on Saturday, February 17, 2007. I believe the parade
will begin at 4:00 pm but you should contact the
Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii to confirm.
The route will begin at Richards Street, run down Hotel Street, and end
at River Street. At Maunakea Street and Hotel Street
there will be live entertainment and booths featuring
Asian food and traditional Chinese New Year arts and
crafts.
2007 Chinatown Open House
(February 16-17, 2007)
There will be an open house at the Chinatown
Cultural Plaza in Chinatown Honolulu
on February 16-17, 2007 from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
The event will feature food vendors offering traditional Chinese foods
and live entertainment featuring ethnic dance troupes,
local musicians, and martial arts and weapons desonstrations.
Chinese New Year in Waikiki
(February 21, 2007)
There will be a Chinese New Year celebration
at the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach Hotel
February 21, 2007 from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm.
Events will include a lion dance, Chinese songs,
calligraphy, a fashion show and samples of traditional
Chinese New Year food.
