Marker #19 on the Waikiki Historic Trail marks the location of the Ala Wai Canal and the Hawaii Convention Center.

Waikiki Historic Trail Marker 19 tells the story of the 1922-1928 Waikiki Reclamation Project that turned a swampy area filled with taro farms, rice fields, fish ponds, and duck ponds into an urban area filled with hotels, apartments, rsetaurants, and shops. The marker also introduces the adjacent Hawaii Convention Center that was built in 1995.

Location of Waikiki Historic Trail Marker 19

Marker number 19 on the Waikiki Historic Trail is located on Kalakaua Avenue, on the banks of the Ala Wai Canal, next to the Hawaii Convention Center. It is located on one end of a beautiful tree lined pedestrian walkway along the Ala Wai Canal between Ala Moana Bouvard and Kalakaua Avenue. The nearest major intersection to Marker 19 is Kalakaua Avenue and Kapiolani Boulevard.
