Professional Bull Riders Challenge on Maui

The Myron Duarte Maui Professional Bull Rider Challenge will take place on the island of Maui in Hawaii November 10-11, 2006.

Maui County Mayor Alan Arakawa, announced that Piiholo Ranch, in conjunction with Professional Bull Riders has scheduled the Myron Duarte Maui Challenge bull riding event to be held on Maui November 10-11, 2006. The event will feature 40 bull riders, including the top 20 in the world, riding the toughest bulls in the country which will be flown in for the event. The location of this Maui event is yet to be determined.

The first Professional Bull Riders event to be held in Hawaii, the Myron Duarte Maui Challenge is named for Wailuku native Myron Duarte who, for the past eleven years, has been collecting gold buckles at bull riding events and rodeos throughout the United States, is an eight-time qualifier to the National Finals Rodeo, was the Reserve World Champion in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association in 2002, and recently hit over $1 million in career earnings, putting him in an elite group of professional bull riders,

A subsequent televised event, the Professional Bull Riders All-Star Event, which is the culmination of the 2006 season, will be held at the Blaisdell Arena November 17-18. 2006.

The Professional Bull Riders has been officially declared as the fastest growing sport in the United States. This last year, the 2005 Built Ford Tough World Finals reached over 320,000,000 households both nationally and internationally. Professional bull riding has invaded mainstream America and beyond, establishing itself as the "Toughest Sport on Dirt!"

"Maui County is thrilled to have the enormously popular PBR come to Hawaii and schedule its first event on Maui. I am appreciative of Peter Baldwin of Piiholo Ranch who was instrumental in encouraging PBR to hold this first-time event for Maui and naming it in recognition of Wailuku's native Myron Duarte's outstanding accomplishments," said Mayor Arakawa.
