Lahaina Plantation Days
A celebration of the Maui's plantation history at the Pioneeer Mill in Lahaina, West Maui. Usually takes place in July or August.

Heiva I Maui Tahitian Dance Competition
The 12th Annu8al Heiwa I Maui Tahitian Dance and Drumming Contest took place on Saturday and sunday, August 15-16, 2009 at the War Memorial Gymnasium in Wailuku, Maui. The event featured a competition between local Tahitian dance and drumming groups, Polynesian arts and crafts for sale, and local food vendors.

Obon Dance Festivals on Maui
Bon dances are held all summer long at Buddhist temples on Maui and other parts of Hawaii. Each temple hosts one dance a year but there are many Buddhist temples throughout Hawaii, so there are many dances in different locations.

Sports Events in August on Maui

Cycle to the Sun
This annual Maui cycling race has a difficult course that climbs 36 miles to the 10,000 foot summit of Mount Haleakala. The 2009 event will take place on Sunday, August 23, 2009.

Lahaina Jackpot Fishing Tournament
Annual Maui fishing tournament founded in 1976 to promote sport fishing in Lahaina and to educate the general public about sport fishing and tag and release programs. Typically attracts up to 500 anglers from around the world.

Larry Libras Fishing and Diving Tournament
The 21st Annual Larry Libres Memorial Fishing and Diving Tournament at Kanaha Beach Park in August of 2008. Up to 500 anglers typically participate in this event. The 22nd Annual Larry Libres Fishing Tournament is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Kanaha Beach Park. The event is free and all competitors receive a t-shirt and lunch.
