Flor de Cardo Galleria Boutique
1160 Nu'uanu Avenue, next to Pegge Hopper Gallery. Enjoy a taste of Argentine culture, unique designs and fine art by world-renowned artists Cecilia Revol Nunez and Thomas Muller, distinctive fashion and jewelry designs. Hours: Tuesday-Saturday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and also on First Friday evenings until 9 p.m. 523-1217.
Hawaii Theatre Center (17)
1130 Bethel Street. Proclaimed as the "Pride of the Pacific," the beautiful theatre opened its doors in 1922 as a showplace for vaudeville, plays, musicals and silent films. In May 1996, the theatre was restored and reopened as a multi-purpose performance center. It is listed on both the State and National Registers of Historic Places.
Studio of Roy Venters (18)
1160 Nuuanu Avenue next to Sisu Gallery. Unique and whimsical artwork by Roy Venters and other artists include Roy’s one-of-a-kind decorated and painted furniture.
Ming’s Antiques (36)
1144 Bethel Street, located one block mauka of Hawaii Theatre Center. Featuring unique and different antique furniture and art objects from China and IndoChina. Visiting the gallery is a treat - learn about the craftsmanship and cultures behind these unusual antiques. Open Mon – Sat 10 am to 4 pm 585-8877.
Pegge Hopper Gallery (18)
1164 Nuuanu Avenue across the street from Chaplain Lane. Hopper is renowned for her dramatic and colorful paintings of Island women. Her paintings are in numerous public and private collections, including the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts and the Contemporary Museum. Periodic shows featuring other artists’ work. The gallery is situated in what used to be the Japanese quarter of Chinatown.
Ramsay Chinatown Gallery (24)
1128 Smith Street. Housed in the Tan Sing building which was built in 1923, and is on the National and State Register of Historic Places. A favorite of film crews and photographers, the front wall sports a Tom Selleck autograph, along with a collection of other Honolulu celebrities. The gallery has the only courtyard in Chinatown that opens onto the street (on Maunakea Street side (see Ramsay Courtyard (9). Ramsay is well known for her finely detailed quill and ink drawings which capture the elegance of historic buildings.
