Chinatown is a "Preserve America" Community
In May of 2006, Chinatown Honolulu was designated a "Preserve America Community Neighborhood" by the United States White House Advisory Council on Historical Preservation.

Honolulu's Chinatown Was Burned Down Twice
In January of 1900 most of Honolulu's Chinatown was burned to the ground when a fire intentionally set to destroy a outbreak of bubonic plague burned out of control. Another fire thirteen earlier also destroyed most of Chinatown.
