About the District

The Wailuku Civic Center Historic District is a 40-acre region of downtown Wailuku featuring four historically significant buildings.

Designated United States national historic place number 86001624 on August 20, 1986.

Historic Buildings in the District

Old Wailuku Courthouse (1907)
Designed by architect Henry Livingston Kerr. Located at 150 South High Street in Wailuku.

Kalana Pakui Building / Old Police Station (1925)
Designed by architect William D'Esmond. Located at 250 South High Street in Wailuku.

Wailuku Library (1928)
Designed by architect C.W. Dickey. Located at 251 High Street in Wailuku.

Territorial Building (1931)
Two story building constructed in 1931 on the former site of a courthouse and town hall, and adjacent to the Kaahumanu Curch. Architecture is a combination of Hawaiian and Mediterranean Revival. Designed by architect C. W. Dickey. Today is is a Hawaii governor's liaison office. Located at 2264 Aupuni Street in Wailuku.

Kalana O Maui Building (1972)
Nine story building constructed in 1972 on the former site of a fir3ehouse and jail. Locat3ed netween the Courthouse Building and the Old Police Station Building. It is listed as part of the historic district, but as a "non-contributing property".
