Introduction to Maalaea's Beaches
Maalaea's beaches can be very very windy.
There are no white sandy beaches at Maalaea Harbor
but there is a wave break called Freight Train
that is considered to be one of the fastest breaks
in the world during certain times of the year.
Just south of Maalaea Harbor is an area sometimes
called the Maalaea Mud Flats.
Most of Maalaea's condominium complexes are
located in this area. It's a rocky shoreline
area that is a good board-surfing and bodysurfing
spot during the winter months when the waves are up.
Haycraft County Park
6.5 acre oceanfront park managed by Maui County.
Activities include having picnics and swimming, but
note that the park does not have a lifeguard.
Facilities include two picnic tables, two barbecue grills,
one outdoor shower, one water fountain, portable toilets,
and a parking lot with 10 spaces.
Located at the end of a road at 399 Hauoli Street in Maalaea Town.
Beach Between Maalaea and North Kihei
There is a 3 mile long beach between Maalaea and North Kihei,
on a narrow strip of land that is bordered on one side
by Kalia Pond and on the other side by the ocean.
I think the beach here is bordered by sand dunes.
I have see this beach called Maalaea Beach, Kalia Beach,
and Sugar Beach.
