Off-Roading on Lanai Island

Information about off-roading on Lanai Island.



Lanai has about 400 miles of dirt roads that can be explored by jeep or other off-road vehicle. Most of the dirt roads on Lanai are in the northern region of the island.

The Kanepuu Preserve is located 4.8 miles and 20 minutes away from Lanai City on a dirt road. Garden of the Gods (Keahiakawelo) is about 5 minutes past the preserve Remote, white sand Polihua Beach is about 4.7 miles and 35 minutes further down the road.

A rough unpaved road etending northeast from Lanai City ends at isolated Shipwreck Beach (Kaiolohia) on the south coast of Lanai. The drive typically takes about 30 minutes. Warning: don't drive on the beach because its not legal and even 4-wheel drive vehicles can get stuck in the sand.

Historic Kaunolu in South Lanai was the home of King Kamehameha’s favorite summer fishing retreat, overlooking Lanai’s southern cliffs.

Lanai Jeep Rentals Jeep Tour
Offers a 3-hour, morning or afternoon jeep tour that includes driving the Munro Trail, visiting the Garden of the Gods, and visiting Shipwreck Beach. Tours include light snacks and drinking water.

The ferry between Maui and Lanai can arrange for you to rent a self-drive four wheel drive jeep for use on Lanai. When you rent a jeep you will be given a map of Lanai. and you will be given a price that includes round trip transportation for one person from Maui to Lanai, the cost of renting the jeep, and a map of Lanai.

E xpeditions Ferry can also arrange for you to take a half day or full day guided jeep tour with a driver. Tours include some or all of these sights: an ironwood forest, the Garden of the Gods natural red rock formations, Shipwreck Beach, the Munro Trail, and ancient petroglyphs. Not all of the attractions may be included so when you book, be sure to let the organizers know if you are especially interested in particular areas or attractions.
