AIRPORT NAME: Lanai Airport
Introduction to the Lanai AirportLanai Airport is located four miles southwest of Lanai City on the island of Lanai. It is operated by the State of Hawaii, Department of Transportation, Airports Division. Lanai Airport occupies 505 acres of land. The airport has a single 5,000-foot runway and primarily serves scheduled interisland and commuter/air taxi traffic, with some unscheduled charter and general aviation activity. The airport is served by Island Air and general aviation planes. A total of 175,541 passengers flew in and out of Lanai during 1999. A new passenger terminal complex was completed in 1994 to replace the aging facilities. The new complex includes improved roadway access, parking, and rental car facilities, as well as new cargo and airport support facilities. The existing taxiway and aircraft parking apron were enlarged in 1991 and a new cargo building was completed in 1993. The runway is proposed to be extended in the future to permit use by jet aircraft without payload restriction. The existing airport access roadway from Kaumalaupau Highway will continue to serve as the primary access route from Lanai City.
