Off-Roading on Lanai Island
Information about off-roading on Lanai Island.
Lanai has about 400 miles of dirt roads that can be explored by jeep or other off-road vehicle. Most of the dirt roads on Lanai are in the northern region of the island. The Kanepuu Preserve is located 4.8 miles and 20 minutes away from Lanai City on a dirt road. Garden of the Gods (Keahiakawelo) is about 5 minutes past the preserve Remote, white sand Polihua Beach is about 4.7 miles and 35 minutes further down the road. A rough unpaved road etending northeast from Lanai City ends at isolated Shipwreck Beach (Kaiolohia) on the south coast of Lanai. The drive typically takes about 30 minutes. Warning: don't drive on the beach because its not legal and even 4-wheel drive vehicles can get stuck in the sand. Historic Kaunolu in South Lanai was the home of King Kamehameha’s favorite summer fishing retreat, overlooking Lanai’s southern cliffs.
