Getting Married on Lanai Island

Bill Gates' 1994 Lanai Wedding
One of the most famous marriage ceremonies on Lanai was the wedding of billionaire and Microsoft computer software mogule Bill Gates toMelinda French on New Year's day in 1994. The couple invited 130 guests to their wedding at the Four Seasons Lanai Resort, where they reserved all 250 rooms at the Hotel, then known as the Manele Bay Hotel. They were married under a white-topped canopy on the 17th hole of the Challenge at Manele Golf Course. It has been reported that Gates hired all of the heliopters on Maui Island to prevent photographers from flying over Lanai duringthe wedding.
