About Pakala Village
Information about Pakala Village, Hawaii
Pakala Camp consisted of employee and retiree housing for workers at the Gay and Robinson sugarcane plantation in the district of Makaweli, the last remaining sugarcane plantation on Kauai. The plantation was managed by the Robinson family of Kauai and Niihau, who first arrived in Hawaii in 1863. Pakala is a community, beach, landing site, and surf site Many of Niihau's residents live in Pakala Village when they are on the island of Kauai.Their is a surf break on the west end of a wide, shallow fringing reef off the beach known as "Infinities". A public right-of-way to the beach is next to the Aʻakukui Stream Bridge on Kaumualiʻi Highway. Makaweli Landing at Pakala Village was historically called Robinson's Landing, because the family of Aubrey Robinson ran a private ferry to their island of Niihau.
