Christmas on Kauai Island

Information about celebrating Christmas on Kauai Island in Hawaii.

Kauai Christmas Parades
There are two lighted Christmas Parades on Kauai, one in the southeast coast town of Lihue and one in the southwest Kauai town of Waimea. Both of them feature lighted up parade participants.

Kauai Festival of Lights
This festival takes place every year on the first Friday in December at the historic county building in the town of Lihue. It begins with an opening ceremony and Christmas Carols sung by the Kauai Chorale, followed by a countdown to illuminating the Kauai County Building's Christmas lights and decorations. Decorations inside the building include the famous Christmas tree made of 7500 toothpicks by Auntie Josie Chansky. The opening ceremony for the 12th annual Kauai Festival of Lights took place on December 5, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. For information about the next event call 808-828-0014.

Kauai Museum Christmas Craft Fair (Lihue)
Every year the Kauai Museum in Lihue produces a holiday craft fair during the Downtown Lihue Festival of Lights, which is usually the first week in December. The Kauai Museum is located at 4428 Rice Street in the southeast Kauai town of Lihue. The 2008 Kauai Museum Christmas Craft Fair took place on December 5, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. For information about the next annual craft fair call 310-245-6931.

Bond Kauai Christmas Hula Concert (near Lihue)
This annual fundraiser for Halau Hula o Leilani, a hula school directed by kumu hula Leilani Rivera Bond, features a concert of Hawaiian Christmas music and hula performed by children and adult students, craft vendors offering holiday creations, and dinner. The 2008 Kauai Christmas Hula Concert will take place on December 21, 2008 at the Hilton Kauai Beach Resort, just north of Lihue, at 7:00 p.m. and special guest performers will include Larry Rivera and Michael Ruff. Kukui Grove Gingerbread Festival
The 7th Annual Gingerbread Festival a the Kukui Grove Shopping Center will take place on December 13, 2008. The event is produced by Easter Seals Hawaii and it is an opportunity for families to build their own Gingerbread house. Only a few gingerbread house kits are available on the day of the event, so be sure to ask the Easter Seals Kauai office how to purchase your kit in advance, to make sure you get one. The Kukui Grove Center is located at 3-2600 Kaumaualii Highway in Lihue. For more information about the event call 808-245-7784.

KCC Kauai Christmas Concerts
The student orchestra, wind symphony, and jazz ensemble of the Kauai Community College Music School usually have several Christmas Concerts during the month December. Check their performance schedule in December to find out when and where the concerts will take place.
