Merrie Monarch Festival
Hula competition and festival held for more than 50 years in the town of Hilo on the east coast of Hawaii Island. The week-long event is held every year, in March or April, beginning on Easter Morning.

Sports Events

Lavaman Triathlon Waikoloa
Part of the annual Lavaman Triathlon and Sports Festival that includes an awards party and beach barbecue on anaehoomalu Bay. Events include a 10k run, 40k bike, and 1.5k swim. For more information call 808-886-2884.

Panaewa Scholarship Rodeo
Two day rodeo held every year at the Panaewa Equestrian Center in Hilo. Profits from ticket sales and food sales finance two $2000 college scolarships for Hawaii Island students of Portuguese ancestry.

Astro Day in Hilo
Annual astronomy focused event held at the Prince Kuhio Plaza Shopping Center, usually in April or May.

Earth Day Fair
Features more 40 government agency and non-profit exhibitors, environmental videos, and entertainment. Held at the Hawaii Community college and the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

March for Babies
This 3.5 mile walking event in Kailua-Kona is a fundraiser for the March of Dimes. for more information call 808-973-2155.
