Ninole Kau Visitor Information
Information about the town of Ninole in the Kau Region
on the south side of Hawaii Island,

The Kau Region village of Ninole was the birthplace of Henry ʻ Opukahaia (1792–1818) who inspired the missionary movement that forever changed Hawaii. That village was mostly destroyed by a post-earthquake tsunami in 1868. Today's Ninole of Kau community is situated south of Hawaii Belt Road (Hawaii Route 11) and south of Punaluu Beach. The town has been known by several different names over the years. the Board on Geographic Names officially designated it "Ninole" in 2000.
