National Park Campgrounds

State Park Campgrounds on Hawaii Island

All of the camp sites in the Hawaii State Parks System must be reserved and paid for in advance by purchasing a permit on the camping.hawaii.gov Web site. Note that permits are only available online and at at Hawaii State Park district offices, they are not available on-site.

Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area Camping Shelters
Offers camping 4-person, a-frame camping shelters consisting of a screened room with wooden sleeping platforms and a picnic table. Shared facilities include restrooms with cold showers and a pavilion with a stove and refrigerator. Located in the Kohala Coast area on the west side of Hawaii Island.

Kiholo State Park Reserve Campground
State park reserve offering camping on weekends only. Camp sites are accessed by driving on a gravel road and they are in a remote area with no water and no facilities except portable toilets. Note that after the park gates are locked at night no vehicles can enter or leave. Located in the Kona region on the west side of Hawaii Island.

Manuka State Wayside Park Campground
Open shelter camping 13.4 acre state roadside park offering open shelter parking. Located on the south side of Hawaii Island.

Camp Hookena
This campground at Hookena County Beach Park has been managed and maintained by the Friends of Hookena Beach Park since that organization's May 2007 agreement with the County of Hawaii.

Hawaii Camping Adventures at Mahukona
Arranges camping trips at their Mahkona County Beach Park base camp. They set up your tent and provide a sleeping cot with bedding, three meals a day except your first and lest night, camp chairs, an ice chest filled with your favorite non-alcoholic drinks.
