Festivals

Puuhonua O Honaunau Cultural Festival
Annual weekend cultural festival held within Puuhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park. The event includes activities such as weaving lauhalal leaves and coconut fronds, beating kapa cloth, lei making, traditional fishing, and canoe rides, and traditional Hawaiian foods. held every year in late June.

Waikii Music Festival
The Waikii Music Festival was held for the first time in 1990, It features two days of Hawaiian and country music. It takes place over Father's Day Weekend on the Polo Field at Waikii Ranch. The event is a benefit for the Aha Punana Leo and the Paniolo Preservation Society. The festival was brought back in 2012 after a seven year haitus.

Waipio Kalo Festival
First annual event was June 4, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 pm. in Honokaa Park in the town of Honokaa. Funded by a $5,000 Ahahui Grant from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs. The event honors and celebrates multiple generations of kalo farmers, musicians, cultural practictioners, and familiesa with genealogical ties, and others who perpetuate Hawaiian Culture in the Waipio Valley.

Holidays

King Kamehameha Day
King Kamehameha Day is an official State of Hawaii holiday celebrating and honoring the achievements of King Kamehameha I. When that date falls on a weekend, the holiday is observed on a work day adjacent to the weekend. The largest King Kamehameha Day celebrations are in the North Kohala Region, in the east coast town of Hilo, and in the west coast town of Kailua Kona.

Big Island Jazz and Blues Festival
Annual festival held in an oceanfront location at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel on the west side of Hawaii Island.

Kona Marathon
West Hawaii Island running event that includes full marathon, half marathon, 10 kilometer, and 5 kilometer distances.

Ironman 70.3 Hawaii Triathlon
Triathlon on the west side of Hawaii Island that was known as the Honu Triathlon when it was firdst held in 2004. When the distance was changed from Olympic to Half Ironman, the name of the event was fchanged to "Ironman 70.3 Hawaii".
