Kau is the largest region on Hawaii Island but it is also the most remote and the least populated. Because of its remoteness, the Kau Region's housing prices are among the least expensive on the Big Island. Most of the Kau region is on the southeast side of the island but a small section is on the far southwest coast and tip of the island.

Tourism in the Kau Region
There is very little tourism infrastructure in the Kau Region. The area has only a few hotels and restaurants, and the main visitor attractions are South Point (the southern-most point in the United States), the Kau Coffee Mill and Visitor's Center, and Manuka State Wayside Park, and several beach parks.
