Hamakua Region of Hawaii Island
Information for visitors to the Hamakua Tourism Region on the north side of Hawaii Island. Note that the region only includes the west end of the northern Big Island's Hamakua Coast. The east end of the Hamakua coast is in the South Hilo Region and the middle of the Hamakua Coast lies within the North Hilo Region.
The Hamakua Region of Hawaii Island extends from approximately the Waimanu Valley in the west to the community of Paauilo in the east. It is situated between the Pololu Valley in the North Kohala Region and the towns of Laupahoehoe and Ookala in the North Hilo Region. The Hamakua Region also extends inland to the center of Hawaii Island.
