Big Island Film Festival
The Big Island Film festival is a
"talk story" film festival celebrating
narrative short films and feature length
films and their makers. The 4th Annual Big
Island Film Festival will take place May 14-17,
2009 at the Waikoloa Beach Resort on the west
side of the Big Island of Hawaii.
Brothers Cazimero May Day Concert
Filipino Fiesta and Parade
The Annual Filipino Fiesta is an all day event
in Waikiki's Kapiolani park that features
a parade down Kalakaua Avenue, an all day
festival in the park with live entertainment,
cultural displays, and food booths, and
in the a candlelit Santacruzan Festival
and procession at night.
The 17th Annual Filipino Fiesta will take place
May 9, 2009 at Kapiolani Park in Waikiki.
Hawaii Book and Music Festival
Annual celebration of storytelling and
song held every year on the civic center
grounds in the historic capitol district
of downtown Honolulu. The 4th annual
Hawaii Book and Music Festival is scheduled
to take place on May 16-17, 2009.
The festival will be held from 10 am to 5 pm
on Saturday and Sunday with a free sunset
concert each evening featuring some of
Hawaii's top performers.
Hawaii Food and Wine Paradise
Four day upscale food and wine event featuring
golfing, fashion, food events, and wine tasting
activities in West Oahu. Also features brunch
at an exclusive Waikiki hotel. The 2nd Annual Hawaii
Food and Wine Paradise event will take place
May 21-24, 2009.
Hilo Inter-Tribal Powwow
Annual event that takes place every
May in Wailoa River Park in Hilo
on the east side of Hawaii Island.
Event is hosted by the Federation of
American Natives in partnership with
the Big Island Resource Conservation and
Development Council.
Hilo Astro Day Festival
An astronomy festival that akes place every year
at the Prince Kuhio Plaza in Hilo on
Hawaii Island in either April or May,
Hilo Inter-Tribal Pow Wow
Honokaa Western Week, Parade, and Rodeo
This Big Island event usually takes place the last week of May.
The event features a Paniolo Parade (Hawaiian cowboy parade)
a paniolo barbecue, a block party, a live auction,
and activities for children.
The 2009 Honokaa Western Week event will take place May 22-25, 2009.
Kauai Polynesian Festival
Note that 2009 event was cancelled but the
Kauai Polynesian Festival is expected to be
back in 2010.
Lantern Floating Ceremony
Takes place every year on Magic Island
in Ala Moana Park in Honolulu.
Lei Day Celebration
Magic Island Lantern Floating Festival

Makawao St. Joseph Feast
Three day upcountry Maui event that typically
features a May Day program on the first day,
a livestock auction on the last day, and
a feast with live music and family activities
on all three days.

Parkway in West Maui.
PCC Lei Day Celebration
Every year, on or near Lei Day (May 1)
the Polynesian Cultural Center has a
special Lei Day Celebration. The 2009
PCC Lei Day event will take place on May 3, 2009.
Samoan World Fire Knife Competition
The 17th Annual Samoan World Fire Knife
Competition will take place May 14-16, 2009
at the Polynesian Cultural Center on the
northeast side of Oahu Island.
